Handmade Burger Co, Brindley Place

Yesterday my family came to visit for a Christmassy evening in Birmingham. We walked through the German Christmas Market and then ended the evening at Brindley Place for dinner. I love it here as it looks so pretty at night, especially in December when it’s lit up with Christmas lights and full of festive charm. There’s so much choice at Brindley Place, but we decided to dine at Handmade Burger Co as we knew they’d be something for all of us there.

We had booked a table, but we arrived an hour early hungry and needing shelter from the rain! However, the waiter who greeted us was welcoming and accommodating, and they were able to seat us straightaway despite it being a busy Saturday night. There was a range of customers when we arrived from young families to older parties dining before a night out on Broad Street, which gave the restaurant a lively, exciting atmosphere.

Once seated, we were talked through the ordering process and the menu, which features over 40 different burgers with something to suit everyone! Handmade Burger offer beef, chicken and lamb burgers with a range of different exciting toppings, as well as seven different vegetarian burgers (my friends can vouch for the Sweet Potato and Bean Burger from previous visits), children’s burgers, salads, and skewers. I loved the sound of the Sliders, three mini burgers that you could choose from a selection of six of their most popular beef and chicken options. To accompany your burger, there are an assortment of sides including chips (one bowl between two is plenty!!), onion rings, coleslaw, various dips, and extra toppings such as bacon and different cheeses.

All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive during the night, and they constantly checked on us at appropriate intervals. The manager Nathan also visited us throughout the meal to check if we needed anything else and if we were enjoying the meal, and it was another great example of the fantastic friendly service you are guaranteed to receive at Handmade Burger Co. My Mum is on crutches at the moment too, and they were very considerate of this; they helped her with her chair and offered to look after her crutches whilst we ate so that they wouldn’t be in the way all night.

We all agreed that it was the best customer service we’d received in a restaurant in a long time, particularly as it was extremely busy being a Saturday night and in the run up to Christmas!

With so much choice, it took us all a while to settle on a burger to have before we’d even looked at the sides and drinks too. Luckily once we’d ordered the wait on food wasn’t long at all, and soon our yummy burgers were placed in front of us!

Me and my Mum both went for the Beef Burger Stuffed with Mozzarella and Sun Blushed Tomatoes, and topped with Pesto and Rocket. The burger was succulent and perfectly cooked, with a gooey cheesy centre, and stuffed full of flavour from the tasty sun blushed tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pesto worked brilliantly with the burger, and it was like an extra component I hadn’t realised I’d been missing from burgers I’d eaten in the past. I also chose to top mine with bacon, and this added a great salty flavour and extra texture to an already amazing burger. We both opted to switch to a brioche bun too and we were so glad we did; they were soft, complimented the filling perfectly, and weren’t as stodgy and filling as some standard buns can be which made it an overall more enjoyable experience. It was definitely one of the best burgers I’ve eaten, proving that Handmade Burger really are good at doing what they do best.

My Dad went for the Barbecue, Cheese and Bacon Beef Burger. He quickly demolished the burger and really enjoyed it, commenting on how moist and flavoursome it was and raving about how great the burgers are here.

The three of us shared two portions of the chunky chips, and we found it was just the right amount. They were perfectly cooked and exactly how chips should be – soft and fluffy on the inside, but with a crispy exterior. Dipping them into garlic mayo made for a great combination, and we quickly devoured them between us.

My normally fussy brother decided to try something new and chose the Peri Peri Chicken Burger and Peri Peri Chips. Unfortunately he was unable to finish it as it was too spicy for him! My Dad sampled some of the chicken and said it tasted great, but he also found it too hot as well.

Although we were all stuffed after our delicious burgers, the ice cream sundaes all sounded too tempting and we gave in quickly when asked if we wanted dessert. Served in a tall sundae glass, the desserts all looked appealing and we couldn’t wait to dig in! Elliot had the Brownie and Waffle Sundae – vanilla ice-cream, chocolate sauce, brownie, waffle, toffee sauce and whipped cream. Basically his idea of heaven and he really enjoyed it, commenting afterwards that he’d very much like another one!

My Dad went for the Strawberry Cheesecake Sundae, made up of vanilla ice-cream, strawberry coulis, biscuit and whipped cream. He also loved his dessert and would highly recommend it (I’m definitely going to try this one next time!). My Mum initially wanted the Banoffee Pie Sundae but unfortunately they had ran out of bananas, so she decided to have the Lemon Meringue Sundae along with me. This was my first sundae experience and I loved it! The sundae was a delicious blend of crumbly, buttery biscuits, sweet and crunchy meringue, creamy vanilla ice-cream, and tangy lemon curd. All the components complimented each other and it was the perfect end to an amazing meal.

We had an amazing meal at Handmade Burger Co and it’s become a firm favourite for us all! The food was delicious, the staff couldn’t have been friendlier, and I can’t wait to visit again. It’s the perfect venue for any occasion whether it’s a birthday celebration, family meal, or if you just fancy a night off cooking.  They also have a restaurant at the Bullring, and it’d be a good choice for a quick lunch during shopping.

The prices are great here too, with the average burger at £7-8 and a bowl of chips at around £3.50 (which you can share!), making it an inexpensive choice. In addition they offer students  with a NUS card 15% off all week and 30% off on Monday’s! Follow a website like Vouchercodes.co.uk and you will find that Handmade Burger Co regularly have offers on here too.

Disclosure: We were invited to dine as guests at Handmade Burger Co, and all food and drinks were complimentary. But as always all opinions expressed are honest and my own, and I was not required to write a positive review
