Champagne Afternoon Tea at the Laurent Perrier Champagne Bar

Last month I was invited to a bloggers event at the newly refurbished Laurent Perrier Champagne Bar on Level 25 of The Cube for the launch of their new champagne afternoon tea. I went to the launch of the bar’s new makeover the previous month (read my review on Design My Night here) and was impressed by how glamorous it was! So I was excited to return again to sample their afternoon tea too. This was my first ever afternoon tea as well, so to say I was excited is a huge understatement!

When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely Sarah who had organised the event and given the choice of where we wanted to sit. We were drawn towards a table next to the windows so that we could admire the fantastic views over Birmingham that the bar offers. Within moments a glass of champagne was placed in front of us (lucky me got two glasses as my Mum was driving!) and we excitedly skimmed over the menu to see what treats they had in store for us!

Again it was a mere handful of minutes before our afternoon tea was brought to us and a three-tiered stand filled with lots of mini delights was set down. It all looked so inviting and we couldn’t wait to dig in. We started off with the finger sandwiches, of which there were three flavours – Ham and Mustard, Cheese and Fruit Chutney, and Smoked Salmon. My favourite out of the three was the cheese and fruit chutney one; I rarely have cheese sandwiches, but I loved the combination of the tangy cheese with the sweet chutney in this one. All of the sandwiches were nice – soft, fresh bread, plenty of filling and neatly cut – but it would of been nice to see more exciting fillings to transform them from average sandwiches into something more interesting and memorable. We were offered more sandwiches too if we wanted them, but we decided to save some space for all of the sweet treats.

Not only was this was first afternoon tea, but it was also my first ever scone experience too! The scones were huge and we could only manage one each, but they were absolutely delicious. Light, soft and slightly warm still, then piled high with strawberry jam and lots of indulgent clotted cream. It’s safe to say that I’m now a scone fan! We both thought that there wasn’t enough jam provided for both of our scones, however if we hadn’t been so greedy and eager to eat them we could have asked for more as they did pass out extra jam later on.

Finally we moved onto the last plate – an assorted selection of mini cakes and bakes! All of the desserts were the perfect size, which meant we got to enjoy all of them. My Mum had the four chocolate treats – Black Forest Gateau, Chocolate Eclair, Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Brownie. She said all of them were yummy, but her favourite by far was the chocolate brownie which she enjoyed with our leftover clotted cream.

This left me with the four other tasty desserts to try. I started with the Custard Slice – I found the base quite hard and dry, but the creamy custard and sweet icing on top more than made up for it! Next up was the Doughnut filled with Cream and Raspberry Jam, which was surprisingly light; the combination of the sugary, soft doughnut with the smooth cream and sweet raspberry jam was heavenly. I saved the best till last though with the deliciously light and fruity Mango Cheesecake! Bar the cheesecake they were all desserts that I hadn’t tried before and it was a nice to try something new, especially as I really enjoyed them all!

Overall:

I had a lovely time at the Laurent Perrier Champagne Bar and really enjoyed their champagne afternoon tea. It’s priced at £29.95 and for a special occasion or treat, it’s worth the money for the overall experience you receive at the venue with the delicious food and champagne, stunning views, and fantastic service! I’d definitely return here for afternoon tea again, and it would be great to see if they regularly change their sandwich fillings and cakes too.

Disclosure: I was invited by Marco Pierre White Champagne Bar to review their afternoon tea, and all food and drinks were complimentary. But as always all opinions expressed are honest and my own, and I was not required to write a positive review
