August Bank Holiday Weekend

I was lucky enough to get an extra few days off for bank holiday at work this year, making it stretch all the way from Saturday through to Wednesday! And I took full advantage of this little break to do as much as possible with all my friends and family. Naturally it involved lots of great food and cocktails…the best way to spend it!

Lunch at Sabai Sabai

The long weekend started early on Friday when me and my work colleagues went for lunch at Sabai Sabai in Harborne to celebrate my boss’ upcoming maternity leave. Cocktails on a Friday lunchtime…why not?! I was pleasantly surprised by how extensive their cocktail menu was and I could of happily drank them all. I opted for one of their Thai Cocktails with the Lychee Martini – Fresh Lychees muddled with Gin, Kwai-Feh Lychee Liqueur and Apple Juice – which was just fantastic! To eat I had the Chicken Pad Thai – Rice Noodles, Sabai Sabai Pad Thai Sauce, Beansprouts & finely sliced Carrots, served with Roasted Peanuts, Dried Chilli and a Wedge of Lime. A seriously tasty dish which was a steal at only £7.95 on their lunch menu!

Digbeth Dining Club’s 2nd Birthday Party

On Friday evening, me and Katie went to Digbeth Dining Club’s 2nd Birthday Party! The atmosphere was amazing and there was so much great street food on offer! I had Buddha Belly’s absolutely delicious and unbeatable Thai Green Chicken Curry, whilst Katie had the yummy Marinated Chicken in Batter with Noodles and Sweet Chilli Sauce.

Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea at The Jekyll and Hyde

Saturday saw me and Katie head to The Jekyll and Hyde to try out their afternoon tea and sample more of their exciting cocktails! It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon, and you can read my full review of it here.

We’ve been craving the food and the pina coladas from Bodega ALL summer, so on Saturday night me and Katie finally headed there to get our fix. The Pina Colada was just as good as I remember, if not better! I also tried all new dishes here as well and will be posting a new review of my meal soon. Warning – it will make you hungry!!

Bank Holiday Sunday

On Sunday morning I jumped on the train home to see my family for the day. After a quick shopping trip in Leicester, me and my Mum stopped for a coffee at John Lewis to refuel and catch up.

No Sunday at home is complete without my Mum’s Sunday dinner, and this one was no exception! And it was the perfect dinner to have before heading out for a fab night out with all my friends at home.

The Lost and Found

On Monday evening, me and Hayley boarded the train to Birmingham ready for an exciting few days together! We had the best time, and this was kicked off with a lovely evening of food and cocktails at The Lost and Found.

Although I thought the cocktails weren’t as good as the ones I’ve had here in the past (the cocktail menu has changed since I last visited), they were still great and we really enjoyed them! I had the Hettie’s Voyage, which was tangy and refreshing, and the Lemon Sherbert Fizz, which was zesty and tasty but became quite watered down before I’d had a chance to finish it.
We both opted for the Beer Battered Fish and Chips to eat and I’m so glad we did as it was delicious! The batter that coated the soft, succulent fish was crispy, tasty and not greasy at all – it was a fantastic example of what a battered fish should be like! The first time I visited The Lost and Found for food I fell in love with the chips, and luckily they’ve kept the standard high with them as they were equally amazing again. The tartare sauce was smooth, tasty and went really well with the fish. Whilst the pea puree was flavoursome, sweet and so moreish that I couldn’t stop eating it.
We couldn’t resist ordering dessert too and I immediately went straight for the Peanut Butter Parfait. It was amazing and seriously one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time. It was indulgently creamy, peanutty and just delicious! The sharp raspberry coulis cut through the sweetness of the parfait and complimented it really well. It also wasn’t heavy at all, making it a perfect end to a fantastic meal and evening at The Lost and Found.

Afternoon Tea at Cafe Opus

I enjoyed my afternoon tea so much on Saturday that I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day with Hayley on Tuesday. We had a really nice, chilled time at Cafe Opus enjoying all the tasty treats on offer, and I’ll be posting a full review of their afternoon tea soon.

On Tuesday night me and Hayley went to see Wicked at the Hippodrome. It was just as good as the first time I saw it in London a few years ago, and we both really enjoyed the show!

Cocktails at Revs

We couldn’t resist going for some post-theatre cocktails after the show too…well when are we ever not drinking cocktails together?! We headed to Revs and spent the night trying lots of their fab cocktails, including the Hobo Mojito, Jammy B*stard, Porn Star Martini and Tennessee Mudshake, which were great as always.

I had the best bank holiday in a long time! I now have serious bank holiday blues too about going back to work tomorrow…roll on Friday for another weekend of foodie fun!
