Christmas in Birmingham

With just two weeks until Christmas, I’m officially in the festive mood! So here’s my top picks for Christmassy things to do in Birmingham this year:

1. Digbeth Dining Club Presents Winter Wonderland

When Digbeth Dining Club announced their plans for December, I have to admit I got very, very excited at the prospect of it being on 8 times in the run up to Christmas! You can still catch it another 6 times this month,  including the special extended weekend running from the 18th to the 21st, before it takes a break until February. Head down for festive inspired dishes, like this a-mazing Xmas PBJ from Meatshack or the Mince Pie Toastie from The Jabberwocky.

2. Festive Afternoon Tea at Hotel La Tour

Hotel La Tour are offering a delicious festive afternoon tea, which I went to try with some lovely Midland’s foodie bloggers this month. It’s just a short walk from the Bullring too, making it a great spot to pop into for a break from Christmas shopping.

3. Digmas at The Custard Factory

On the Saturday before Christmas, The Custard Factory presents Digmas. With street food (from Meatshack, Fat Duck Spuds, Esmie’s, The Vegan Grindhouse, and Bournville Waffle Company!), a pop up bar from Alfie Birds, plenty of stalls to pick up last minute gifts, Christmas film screenings and even real-life reindeer, it’s set to be a fun festive day out!

And hopefully you managed to catch the Winter Market in Digbeth last weekend too, which had a host of fantastic street food traders, a routemaster bus bar, and even a snow machine!

4. Christmas Films at The Electric Cinema

With festive films like Elf, Home Alone and The Muppet Christmas Carol being shown in the run up to Christmas, The Electric Cinema is the perfect place to catch your favourite Christmas film this season. It’s a truly special cinema experience which I couldn’t recommend enough. I loved being able to sip a cocktail whilst watching a film on the comfiest leather sofas – which comes with a waiter service too so you can order snacks and drinks during the film without having to miss any of it!

5. Festive Meal Out

Pretty much every restaurant in Brum is offering a special Christmas food menu, and there really are some tempting options out there this year. The Warehouse Cafe and Bistro 1847 are both offering delicious sounding vegetarian menus. Whilst Coast to Coast’s Christmas menu wowed me with their Maple Bacon Burger and indulgent array of desserts back in October when I was invited along to try it.

6.  German Christmas Market

Love it or hate it, the German Christmas Market is here every year. Despite how busy it gets, it always puts me in a lovely festive mood and I always make sure I go at least once. I’ve visited a few times this year and finally had my first Bratwurst sausage and went on the big wheel!

7. Christmas Cocktails

Not that you need an excuse to drink cocktails, but going for ‘Christmas cocktails’ as part of the festive celebrations is one of the best I can think of at this time of year. My top picks would be Bodega, The Jekyll and Hyde and Coast to Coast for their festive inspired cocktails, as well as Malmaison and The Lost and Found for their fab cocktails!

8. Personalised Nutella Jars in Selfridges

For only £4, Selfridges are doing personalised Nutella jars this year and I just think they would make the perfect Christmas present for all chocolate-lovers.
